There is a very young girl who knows something is not right.
She does not have words for it. She just knows she belongs on the field. And she knows she is not being let in.
Maybe for you it was a literal dugout. Maybe it was a conference room, a classroom, a family dinner table where your brother's plans were taken seriously and yours were smiled at. Maybe you are doing it right now, giving everything you have to your family and your children, your work and your people, and still somehow feeling like you are on the outside of something you cannot quite name.
Maybe it was the day you stopped asking for something you wanted and you cannot quite remember when that happened or why you let it go.
The dugout looks different for every woman. But we all know the feeling.
Someone handed us a story about ourselves. About what we were allowed to want. What we were built for. What kind of game was ours to play. And most of us accepted it without knowing we had a choice. Not because we were weak. Because the story was handed to us before we were old enough to question it.
Here is what I know after a lifetime of watching women.
The story is not true.
It was never true.
And the moment a woman begins to see that, something shifts that cannot be undone.
That is what A Hero's Journey is built around. Not a problem to fix. Not a program to complete. A question to sit with, alongside someone you love and trust.
